Edward Farthing McKinney was born 18 Jun 1917 in Lander, Fremont County, Wyoming. His parents, Earl & Amelia "Dottie" (Farthing) McKinney were pioneer cattle ranchers in Fremont County. Both his paternal and maternal grandparents came to Fremont County during the 1880's. He grew up on his parents' various ranches and also gained ranchhand experience on other local ranches during his youth. Child 1: MARILYNN LEE McKINNEY

He married Hilda Iiams 22 Dec 1938, the daughter of James Elmer & Beulah Faye (Pope) Iiams who were also pioneer settlers of Fremont County. When Ed's parents purchased a cattle ranch on Twin Creek near Derby Dome during the 1940's, Ed & Hilda went into partnership & eventually took over the ownership upon the deaths of Ed's parents during the 1970's. Ed was also employed as a heavy equipment operator and continued to reside on the ranch with his family until his death 24 Apr 1989. He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery near his parents. Hilda passed away 17 Nov 2001 & is buried beside her husband. Their son Tim, the former Fremont County Sheriff, and his wife Rosie are now the owners of the ranch.
