18 May 1910 - Charleston, Franklin Co Ark (Sworn Statement by Enoch M. Jones)
Excerpts: " Southern Division, Ctf No 930.101. Enoch Jones Co D 2 Ark Vol Cav. I am the same and identical Enoch Jones who as a private in Co D 2 Ark Cavalry in the civil war, filed application on the 15th day of Feb 1910, for an increase in pension- - - - -certificate No 930.101- - - - -My discharge which was burned in the destruction of my dwelling, Jan 3rd 1910, as well as I remember stated that I was born May, 31st 1834 - - - - -But in fact a mistake was made in the date in enrolling my name as a soldier. - - - - -My name and age was recorded in my father, BRITT JONES' family Bible which was destroyed by fire when I was only a few years old and I do not remember anything personally about. It was recorded in my family Bible by SAM DELANEY, my wife's uncle in about 1855 or 1856 wherein my birth date was written May 31st 1833. I am confident that the date in said Bible should have been placed three years earlier. From the best evidence that I can obtain I was born in the year, 1830, and am now eighty years old. I remember that I was married in the year 1855 and that I was twenty five years old when I was married. I also remember that my oldest child, a daughter who married George Langston and is now living with her husband in Sebastian County, Ark., Post office Charleston, R.F.D.No.1, was born in the year, 1856, and that she was eight or nine years old when I went home from the army in 1865, and that she is now fifty four years old. I have one brother, John Jones, P.O. Huntsville,Ark who is three years older than I am, and he is generally reputed among the kinfolks as being 84 years old. I have another brother, B.W.Jones, P.O.Web City, Ark, two years younger than I who is reputed to be 78 years old among our kin."
